Where to find cake!
In 2022 we will again serve cake at the end of five beautiful Dead End Roads. All checkpoints are mandatory – but you choose the order and the route that fits you and your bike the best.
All checkpoints will be revealed in the next few days!
The spectacular “Ruinaulta”-road, carved into the mountain, high above the river rine is one of the best views you’ll find in the alps. After you climbed up to Versam, the road will take you to Safien-Valley and will only get smaller and more beautiful! The checkpoint is located at the beautiful, 300 years old guesthouse “Turrahus”! Their legendary apple-pie will be a well deserved reward!
Dägelsberg Wiesli, just below the “Dägelsberg”. A small and steep road rises from Steg im Tösstal towards Dägelsberg. Many fountains with fresh springwater will keep you fresh and the quaint mountain hut “Sennhütte” is a perfect spot for fresh food and cold drinks. From there a gravel road leads you past Hübschegg to the Dägelsberg Hütte, where a well deserved piece of cake is waiting for your!
There are countless small roads and trails through this large and wild forest (plan carefully – some of them are VERY steep!). With some luck you’ll spot chamois, grouses, golden eagles or even a lynx!
Berghaus Palfries is just underneath the mighty “Alvier”. The road from the rine valley is paved almost all the way to the top. Along the winding road you will see small villages, standing there since more than 600 years. The moment when you come around the corner and spot the rocky Alvier, the Churfirsten and the view down to Walensee for the first time is really special. Add a piece of cake – and you’re in cyclists paradise!
For those riding wider tires, there are some alternative routes to palfries with a lot of stunning views.
Sankt Martin – a tiny village at the very end of Calfeisen valley. The almost forgotten village consists of a small chapel, a water mill and several wooden cabins – more than 700 year old! This is where time seems to be standing still and you can feel nature, history, the deep blue lake and the majestic mountains!
Be aware – the road from “Gigerwald-Lake” to Sankt Martin is so narrow, that traffic is run alternating:
full hour until 20 past > in direction to Sankt Martin
half hour until 10 to > in direction to the lake
from 6 PM to 9 AM > free
The “road” up to Alp Nurdagn will take you up to 2340 meters. The many marmots will cheer you on while you climb a remote small road up and up into Naturpark Beverin. Alp Nurdagn lies in moorlands of Alp Anarosa with some impressive mountain views. The last part from “Tguma” is unpaved but rideable. If you need more than cake, Alp Nurdagn will serve you local specialties and even has some warm beds to rest if needed.
When creating a route – keep in mind that you’re in alpine mountains and there is still a lot of snow at the end of june!
